Earlier this year, Pleijsier Bouw & Onderhoud launched a new label: Pleijsier Vastgoed Verduurzaming (Pleijsier Real Estate Sustainability). With this initiative, the company aims to further accelerate the energy transition in the real estate sector and serve its clients even better. We spoke with Berry Eenkhoorn, the face behind this new label.
Taking the Lead in Sustainability
Berry has been working at Pleijsier since 2008, mainly as a project coordinator. He’s also always willing to take on additional tasks. For example, he’s been responsible for service and aftercare, managed staff planning, and recently implemented a new ERP system.
Berry: “I’m always open to new things, but with Pleijsier Vastgoed Verduurzaming, we’re taking responsibility for future generations; that’s an extra motivator for me.”
Doing what we already did
Sustainability isn’t new in the construction world. At Pleijsier Bouw & Onderhoud, it’s been on the agenda for some time. With the new label, the company mainly wants to give its sustainability projects a distinct identity.
Berry: “When I look at our work, we’re not doing anything completely new. Over the past few years, we’ve already worked on several sustainable projects. With this new label, we’re simply making that expertise more visible, showing clients they can also come to us for making their real estate more sustainable.”
Sustainable real estate is good for the environment, and it also makes financial sense.
Berry: “We don’t mind what motivates a client to get in touch, we’re always happy to think along. While sustainability measures do pay off over time, they still require an upfront investment. That’s why we help our clients strike the right balance between what’s necessary and what’s worthwhile; and we explore financing options together.”
Fully taken care of
This brings us to one of the major advantages of Pleijsier Vastgoed Verduurzaming: the company takes care of the entire process, from advice to execution. This includes helping in the early stages — for example, with financing or subsidy possibilities. Thanks to its experience in the hospitality sector, Pleijsier is also used to working in environments where business operations must continue uninterrupted.
According to Berry, many clients really appreciate that.
Another advantage is that the new label can draw on more than 100 years of knowledge, expertise, and experience from Pleijsier Bouw & Onderhoud.
Berry: “Because we offer multiple disciplines under one roof and work with a large network of partners, clients have a single point of contact. Behind the scenes, we bring in the right professionals for each project: whether it’s roof insulation, a technical installation, or a full renovation including sustainability upgrades.”
The Face of the Label, But Preferably Behind the Scenes
Berry speaks proudly about his time at Pleijsier:
“When I started here 15 years ago, we were handling small-scale renovations and maintenance work for housing associations. Today, we’re managing major renovations and even new construction projects. This new label is the next step, and I’ve been given the honor of setting it up.”
As the conversation becomes more personal, he shifts slightly in his chair.
“With this label, we want to make our green ambitions visible to the outside world. I was asked to take the lead and serve as the first point of contact. That’s an honor, of course, but it’s not about me. I just feel fortunate to be part of an incredible team of skilled professionals. Together, we’re building the real estate of tomorrow.”
