At Pleijsier, we are committed to sustainability: in who we are, what we do and how we do it. For us, making the right choices is not about ‘or’ but about ‘and’, for our customers, our staff and our environment. So doing good and doing right is important to us and part of our DNA, but it does not happen automatically. That is why we have an ongoing focus on it.
Who we are: a human family business
We are a close-knit family business with heart for our business and our staff. Every day we realise that our work affects the daily lives of our people, and we share the joys and sorrows together. Personal contact and a place where everyone can feel at home are essential to us. For instance, we always have a Christmas get-together, but also reflect on the Sugar Feast (Eid al-Fitr), where a colleague shares his religious beliefs with us.
It is that human aspect that often makes the difference. After all, a healthy company stands or falls with healthy staff. For vital employees, we do our best in various ways, for instance by encouraging healthy choices: with workplace fruit, annual cycling and walking trips, company football and table tennis, and an allowance for sports subscriptions.
And if you need a bit more help, then we offer diet or meal coaches or smoking cessation counselling, for example. That human care and attention for each other leads to low absenteeism and has even earned us the Vitaal Bedrijf quality mark.

What we do: build the real estate of tomorrow
At Binnen Pleijsier Bouw & Onderhoud, we are building the real estate of tomorrow. We pay attention to safety, health and the environment, for example by making properties more sustainable. To that end, we launched our new label in 2024: Pleijsier Vastgoed Verduurzaming. This way, we aim to further help accelerate the energy transition in the real estate sector.
We like to set a good example ourselves: our building is gas-free and energy-neutral and we are well on the way to an all-electric vehicle fleet. We also provide a nice workplace in the office and quality tools and work clothes for the people in the field. There is also room for relaxation during a game of pool and we offer the opportunity to talk to an external confidential counsellor.
How we do it: making the special normal
When we get to work, we look carefully at the right people in the right places and challenge them to develop. Older colleagues can take a step back thanks to the Generation Pact (80% work, 90% pay, 100% pension) and the new generations make themselves heard in the Jong & Pleijsier working group. We also offer training and encourage a good work-life balance.
And the work itself? We have plenty of thoughts on that too. For example, by ensuring variety in work and workload. We have also automated repetitive work as much as possible, so that our people have more time for the work that really gives them energy.
So we try to have a major impact in our work, but don’t shy away from small initiatives either. For example, our staff has shower hourglasses and dopper bottles to be mindful of natural gas and water at home too. And we like to show our social commitment: we offer internships and sponsor various clubs and cultural initiatives in the area.

Better every day
We like to do things right, but do we do everything right? No, definitely not. For instance, we think we can go the extra mile in the following areas:
- Diversity: we are pushing for more women in the workplace and across the industry.
- Transport: the car remains an important means of transport for us, but by developing a cycling plan, we can help office workers from (around) Genemuiden get on their bikes more.
- Health: we want to pay even more attention to the mental health of our staff.
- Behaviour: we work on respecting our environment, for example by handling waste responsibly and using more sustainable materials.
- Nature and environment: we want to make the grounds around our premises even greener.
Pleijsier: meer dan vastgoedPleijsier: more than real estate
At Pleijsier, we work on real estate with an emphasis on good, for people and the environment. Yet, as a down-to-earth company, we remain modest and don’t take anything for granted. We are proud of what we do well, and we work hard at it every day. After all, doing good and doing the right thing is not a given. That’s why we remain committed to making the world a better place. Inside Pleijsier and beyond.
